Getting Started with Nventory
Add products, set up your store, and make your first sale in minutes.
1 Step 1 — Set up your store
On first launch, Nventory opens the Store Settings wizard. Enter your store name, currency, and tax rate. These settings appear on receipts and reports. You can change them later in Settings → Store.
2 Step 2 — Add your products
Go to Inventory → Products → New Product. Fill in the name, category, selling price, cost price, and current stock quantity. Add a barcode if you have one — Nventory supports USB barcode scanners out of the box. Repeat for each product, or use the CSV import for large catalogs.
3 Step 3 — Create user accounts
Go to Settings → Users → Add User. Assign a role: Admin (full access), Manager (no settings), or Cashier (POS only). Each user logs in with a PIN at the till. Roles ensure cashiers can only process sales, not change prices.
4 Step 4 — Make your first sale
Click the POS icon in the sidebar. Scan a barcode or search for a product by name. The item appears in the cart. When ready, click Charge, select the payment method (cash, card, or mixed), and confirm. The receipt prints or displays on screen, and stock levels update automatically.
5 Step 5 — Check your reports
At the end of the day, go to Reports → Daily Summary. You'll see total sales, number of transactions, top products, and cash balance. All data is stored locally on your machine — no cloud upload required.
